Beriah Smith draws on his experience as a counselor, negotiator and litigator before trial courts and administrative agencies to assist the Firm’s public sector clients with education, governance, land use planning and enforcement issues.

Beriah returned to Vermont in 2021 after spending four years in North Dakota where he litigated various matters, including easement and title disputes and administrative appeals, and participated in negotiations involving wind and solar projects. While there, Beriah also served as assistant city attorney to local municipalities.

“The work our public institutions do is hard and often requires difficult decisions. In addressing legal questions, my objective is to help clients navigate the law in order to empower them to achieve their goals and feel confident in their course of action.”

The son of a public school teacher and a dairy farmer, Beriah brings a unique passion to his work litigating municipal, educational, environmental and land use matters. He enjoys helping our clients create solutions to the complex issues they face as they try to improve their communities.
