A native of Burlington, Bob Fletcher has advised clients for over twenty years concerning commercial, financial and regulated utility transactions, personnel issues, negotiation and enforcement of real estate and other contracts, and in the areas of general and special education and civil rights.  In addition to his experience as an attorney, Bob brings other important attributes to the Stitzel, Page & Fletcher “team”: practical experience as a business manager and a client’s perspective on the law and the legal profession.

For over six years, Bob was Chief Executive Officer of the Vermont Economic Development Authority, financing industrial, agricultural and commercial business development across Vermont.  In that capacity, Bob was responsible for responding to diverse constituencies, including the organization’s staff and Board of Directors, and local, state and federal stakeholders in the economic development industry.  He also was a “consumer,” rather than a provider, of legal services, which gave him an appreciation and understanding of the client’s perspective of the legal profession and the law.  As a result, Bob impresses upon young lawyers in the Firm the importance of appreciating the client’s perspective of a given situation, and the need to consider the various perspectives from which the client’s choice of available legal options may be evaluated.

“One of our strengths is appreciation of the fact that our client must often take into consideration competing interests and viewpoints within their organizations or communities.  We need to be timely with our response, and clear when explaining the situation to our clients so they have an understanding of what their options are and how their objectives can be met.  We work diligently to find pragmatic solutions to tough problems. Our job is to demystify the process, not make it more complicated.”

Bob is an approved attorney for the Lawyer’s Title Insurance Corporation, and a member of the National Association of Bond lawyers, and has been approved to serve as Bond Counsel by the Vermont Municipal Bond Bank.  In 2016, Bob was elected as a Bar Manager for the Vermont Bar Association.
