The legal issues facing Vermont school officials are varied and ever changing. An experienced, dedicated legal partner can help schools focus on the business of education.

For over a quarter century, we have worked closely with school administrators, school boards, and educators to problem-solve complex education law issues, identifying and helping to structure practical legal solutions.

Clients routinely consult with us as they plan courses of action in an effort to avoid legal barriers, prepare for legal challenges, and avoid or mitigate litigation. We help districts write, review and revise school board policies and essential implementing procedures, and train school staff on legal compliance matters.

Our team handles student-related matters such as student discipline, harassment, bullying, residency, and school choice. We often counsel our clients on school records and confidentiality, and assist with management issues, personnel matters, finance, real estate, contract review, tuition agreements, new construction, governance, and official action.

We also have advised state-level policy makers, including legislators, on broad school policy issues. When necessary, we represent schools in State and federal courts and before administrative bodies such as the Agency of Education, the Human Rights Commission, the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, and the U.S. Office of Civil Rights.
